School Artwork

So this is from a conversation Kim and I had a bit ago but I recently pulled down the box I was storing Marisa's pre-school artwork in and thought this was a good opportunity for a visual (see photo 1). What I have done for each preschool year is to create a book highlighting some of her masterpieces. I usually only put about 10 items in and laminate them together making about 5 pages. I then punch holes in the laminated pages and tie them with ribbon or fibers (see photo 2 & 3). When she was in her 3rd year of preschool I started having her hold up her masterpieces in front of the fridge with more of her artwork displayed behind her. Then I created a layout as part of her school album with this picture (see photo 4). The only problem with this whole process so far is the box I am storing the artbooks and artwork in. It's just a regular cardboard box with stickers Marisa put all over it. It's so unattractive. I need to find something cuter and more practical but the size of the box is the issue - has to be big enough to handle those over sized art pieces that I kept along with the artbooks. Any ideas? Also, my big confession - I obviously have not kept every single item from pre-school nor am I keeping each from Kindergarten. I just had to confess that.

  1. I love the little books you've made for her - laminating is a good idea! Do you have a machine or do you just use the self-laminating thingies?

Have you tried the see-through Rubbermaid sort of tubs for the art work? That's what I plan to use. And so far, I haven't thrown away one piece of school work nor paper that has been sent home to me. I need to, I know... and I'm sure I will at some point. Just not today. Or tomorrow. Or probably this year. :) I'm a pack rat.

  2. I use the self laminating sheets but I'm trying to convince Ted we would need a laminator for other things so we can get one. I'll search on those rubbermaid tubs. If you have a pic of one - post it so I can see. I started keeping every bit of artwork but it quickly became a mess. I'm keeping a lot more of her Kindergarten work - not everything but most.
